Weeeeeek 3 :)

I will be conducting most of my research from the architecture studio and my bed J I will be observing a wide variety of architecture students in their natural environment. The studio is a place where many architecture students spend a majority of their time, whether it’s building models or doing sketches. I will also be doing observations from the comfort of my own bed. I have the capability to sit on my bed and observe my roommate working on architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning homework.

If I stopped a non-architecture student and asked what they thought about architecture students they would probably start off by saying they are insane for all the time and effort they dedicate to their major. Then they would probably stereotype and say that the majority of them are really smart, to the point of being dorky. They would also say they are dedicated and hard-working, which from my experience I would have to agree.

Architecture majors belong to this subculture. My roommate is one of many first year architecture students, along with our classmates Peter and Nicci (sorry if I misspelled your name).

Research terms to use :/

To find information on the BSU architecture program I will look for articles and information in both Bracken Library and also the architecture library. I may even be able to find some information on the internet, but because I am doing a BSU program I feel that BSU has the resources I need.

:) 10 Q's about my grouppp

1. How many projects are you assigned a week?

2. How many hours do you spend in studio a week?

3. What were the requirements to get into the program?

4. Do you regret your choice due to all the work?

5. What field of architecture would you like to get into?

6. Is the studio strictly used for working?

7. What is your most memorable moment in the studio?

8. Do you enjoy all of the hours spent doing projects and sketches?

9. How do you feel non-architecture students view you?

10. What is a typical night in the studio like?

MBTI :]

My personality type is ENFP :)

I completely agree with the results of the test. I am an outgoing person who's life is run by my emotions and feelings rather than a set schedule.

Week 2 Blog Post :]

As I am choosing my field study the factors that are influencing my choice are accessibility and and convenience. I am strongly considering doing my field study on BSU architecture majors. This is easy access for me and convenient because my roommate is a first year architecture major. Through her I have met many other architecture majors that will aid in my study. I have access to the architecture building, also through my roommate. Another factor is that it is interesting to me. My roommate spends countless hours and all-nighters in the architecture building and I want to see what goes on behind the scenes. It will also help me understand what she is going through.

The most important factor is convenience. My roommate is an architecture major, and studying her and her peers will be easy to do. I can observe her from our room and the studio. I have access to the studio through her.

From this research I hope to learn more about my roommate and what she does with most of her time. I hope to gain understanding about the architecture program, and why it is so highly ranked in the nation.

My Position :D [Box 11]

There are many factors that will influence my outlook on my field study. (I am strongly considering doing my work of BSU architecture majors.) These factors include my age and my schedule. Being a freshman in college I am just beginning to see the world from my own perspective. I am young and like to spend my time having fun and relaxing, something many architecture majors struggle with due to the intense and grueling curriculum they are faced with. My schedule will also influence my perspective. I have an intense 18 credit hour schedule that includes 3 labs, and I also work until midnight 3 nights a week. I also have to spend a large chunk of my time studying for chemistry, physics, biology, and calculus and doing my homework for all of my classes. This will not allow me much time to observe architecture majors during there class and scheduled studio hours, but I will be able to observe the many late night and all nighters they frequently pull in the studio (a very interesting time from what I hear).
From a subjective stance, I am studying this subculture to see what it is my roommate is doing with her time. She is a first year architecture major and spends many hours studying, drawing, working in studio, and doing other architecture related things. I often visit her in the studio, and now I will have a purpose for being there.

Making the Ordinary Extraordinary :) [Box 2]

I spend hours getting ready, contemplating what to wear and how to fix my hair. I make my final decision, but are in noway happy with what I chose. I sit and wait for the call that says "I'm here." I walk myself out to the vehicle waiting for me, or am accompanied by the driver who met me at the door. He asks, "where do you want to eat," or "what movie would you like to see?" I respond with "I don't care," and let him choose where we go, and of course I am completely disappointed in his choice, but pretend to enjoy for the sake of keeping the situation as least awkward as possible. At dinner we both struggle to keep the conversation alive, and then when we arrive at the theater we both are rejoicing on the inside because its quiet in the theater so you do not have to think of conversation. After the movie we ride home, and the movie gives us something to discuss on the way home. When he drops me off there is the awkward questions of a goodnight kiss running through our heads, then we use our best judgement and part ways, either for the night or forever. Once I get to my room I discuss the evening with my roommate, and it always ends up when I am on the search for a nice boy, that boy was just too nice, or merely not nice enough. It appears as if there will never be the perfect one, yet I continue to put myself through this awkward torture that is on display for all those around.

Being a member on the 5th floor of Shwoody is quite a comical experience. The 5th floor houses 50+ very unique individuals. The 5th floor is home to people who do homework and get 3.7 GPAs and it is home to people who never study and get .06 GPAs. The floor houses "party girls" and "book worms." Walking down the hall you hear everything from Marilyn Manson to Britney Spears. Everyone has opinions of their floormates, and let you know. There is fighting and drama, but in the end we would all help each other out. The greatest time to live on teh 5th floor is Friday-Sunday. There is always something happening!
